TZC collects a small amount of anonymous usage data to help us understand how the app is used. This page lists exactly what is collected, what is not, and how to turn it off.

The short version

Selection contents never leave your Mac. We send event names and counters to our analytics provider along with a random install UUID and your app version. No selection text, no parsed times, no personally identifying data, no hardware ID. Opt out with one click in Preferences → Privacy.

What we collect

When analytics is on (the default — toggle in Preferences → Privacy), TZC sends events to a privacy-respecting analytics provider.

Identifier

A random UUID generated on first launch and stored locally in macOS UserDefaults under tzc.anonymousInstallID. It is not tied to your hardware, your Apple ID, your name, or your email. You can see it and regenerate it any time with the Regenerate Install ID button in Preferences → Privacy — regenerating discards the old ID, so past and future events can no longer be associated with each other.

Event names

What was triggered, never what it processed:

app_launched, preferences_opened
conversion_performed (with method = shortcut / service / menu-bar, and success = true / false)
shortcut_invoked (with the slot index), service_invoked
target_zone_configured, slot_cleared (with the slot index)
setting_toggled (with the setting key and new boolean value)
launch_at_login_toggled, analytics_toggled
accessibility_permission_granted, accessibility_permission_denied
conversion_log_cleared

Properties attached to every event

app_version, app_build — the version of TZC you are running.
The anonymous install UUID above.
A timestamp.

Server-side

Your IP address is visible to our analytics provider at the moment of HTTPS ingestion, because the request has to come from somewhere. We do not store it ourselves and do not use it to identify individual users. The provider may use it transiently for spam protection and to infer an approximate country.

What we don't collect

The text you select — selection contents never leave your Mac.
The times you convert, or the converted output.
Which specific time zones you have configured — only the slot index (1–5).
Your name, email, Apple ID, phone number, or any other personally identifying field.
Your hardware ID, MAC address, Bluetooth ID, advertising ID, or any other persistent device identifier.
The conversion log shown in Preferences → Logs — stored locally only, never transmitted.
Crash reports or stack traces.

How to opt out

One toggle, no questions asked

Open TZC Preferences → Privacy and switch Send anonymous analytics off. The change takes effect immediately — queued events are discarded and no further events are sent. Analytics is enabled by default and disclosed on the first-run welcome screen before any event fires; turning it off does not change any feature of the app.

gettzc.com itself

This website (everything under gettzc.com) sends anonymous pageview events to the same analytics provider, so we can count visits to the landing page and this privacy page. Autocapture is disabled, session recordings are disabled, and the script respects your browser's Do Not Track header. No cookies are set for identification; only anonymous pageviews.

Sharing & retention

We do not export, sell, or share collected data with third parties. We may use aggregate reports (e.g. "X% of users have launch-at-login on") to inform product decisions. Our analytics provider's default retention applies to the stored events.

Changes
